Here's how you can follow the way of love with us at IHS and what membership in our congregation looks like.

Turn

No matter where you have been in your life's journey, you are invited to pause, listen, and choose to follow Jesus. As our Presiding Bishop, Michael Curry, says, how can you turn each day like a flower in the direction of the sun, toward the light and love of Jesus?

If you have never been baptized, that is the beginning of the road for the way of love. This is how we begin our faith journey as followers or students of Jesus in our tradition. Or, if you have wandered far, confession and absolution will turn you back toward following the way. Speak with Fr. Ben our pastor for help in making a commitment to follow the way of Jesus.

Learn

Followers of all ages are students of our Master Jesus.  After we turn to follow him we become his students and he becomes our Teacher. "Learn" in the way of love means giving Jesus' teachings authority over our lives, and that starts with learning his teaching. If you're looking for a place to start, try the Sermon on the Mount, which contains many of Jesus' teachings.

At IHS we offer programs to help you obey the command to love God with all your mind. Starting March 6, we will have an in-person, all-ages program talking about the Bible in Context, looking at what is in the Bible and why that matters in our daily lives in the 21st century.

Our pastor writes a blog and connects those themes to sermons each week at our in-person Sunday services. You can also take a look at our IHS365 pages here on our website for more faith at home resources to grow deeper 365 days a year as a follower of Jesus.

Want to go even deeper? Let us know how you'd like to learn. We want to hear from you.

Pray

Prayer is the primary weapon in our arsenal in our daily struggle against evil, sin, injustice, and all the brokenness and pain in our world. Ched Meyers writes that prayer is the "intensely personal struggle within each disciple, and among us collectively, to resist the despair and distractions that cause us to practice unbelief, to abandon or avoid the way of Jesus.” Prayer also draws us closer in love to God.

Worship

Our principal worship is Sundays at 10am. We gather at the Lord's Table as a family of faith and break bread together. All baptized Christians, regardless of what tradition you are baptized in, are welcome to join our table in break bread with us. Regardless of your baptism, anyone is welcome to be with us, no matter who you are, where you've been, your race, ethnicity, gender identity, sexuality, political beliefs. No matter who you are, you are welcomed and needed here.

Bless

We bless our community by loving one another as Jesus loved us and loving our neighbors as ourselves. IHS has several annual outreach ministries and service projects, and we need you to grow these efforts. Just a few we do each year:

  • Alex's Lemonade Stand in the beginning of June

  • Backpack drive supporting Stonehurst Hills Elementary School

  • Fall food drives feeding hundreds of local families

  • Lunch bag campaign for the Upper Darby Life Skills Center

Being a follower of Jesus means putting your gifts, skills, passions, and interests into action. What good do you see that needs to be done? Join us on the way of love and help us in our mission of healing and reconciliation as we strengthen and restore all people in unity to God and each other in Christ.
